Using your Smart Phone for Smart Deals?

Currently I am on a old Orange PAYG with an equally old clamshell style dumbphone, I don't make a lot of calls at the moment and my occasional topup of £10 a couple times of year works for me.
However I am beginning to consider getting a smart phone in order to take advantage of deals and vouchers that I could use when shopping (and also save printer ink on those times a scannable code may need to be presented). I'd also be keen to try some apps and whatnot to help with my budgeting as I wll hopefully be moving into my own flat this year.
I'm also expecting to use my phone more often later in the year when I move as I don't intended on having a landline phone but I would also want to make more use of my smartphone rather than just as a communication device.
Basically I want to make my phone work for me, so does anyone have any tips, tricks, reccomendations for money saving apps or fancy sharing any moments when having a smartphone really paid off in terms of allowing you to grab a bargain?
Thanks in advance for any replies!

Do not make any sudden moves.
