Is that £25 per month? I thought i remembered that they charged £10 a month to keep the box and use it for viewing. ETA the £10 is basically to be able to use the record function.

Get a freeview/sat box no subscriptions needed.

Think i understand better now, theyve quoted you £25 for a sky viewing card? No you will need a card. There are folks on ebay selling viewing cards for less than £10.
  • HIi,

you should be able to get the free channels without a card.

I think it used to be the case for Channel 5 but it appears to have changed, there's precious few FTV channels now (that need a viewing card). About the only one of any note (dependent on taste) is the new motorsport tv channel(447).

just connect up the box and see what you get.

If there are channels missing that you just can't live without, then start looking for a card.

You need the card to view the encrypted channels. The card decrypts them. Channel 5 used to be encrypted but maybe not any more from the above. Any old Sky card (get a white one) that hasn't been deactivated is all you need.

The card does the regionalisation of the box so instead off seeing BBC London/ITV london etc you would see your region version.

BBC London and ITV Granada are the default regions... or were last time I had anything to do with it. But the card does give the correct variants of channels on the logical numbers.

BBC variants are available readily (in the 900s?), but ITV variants (except ITV London which has audio description) have to be tuned and added manually and are therefore a royal pita.

OP: Why buy a 2nd hand $ky box when there must be some cheap 2nd user freesat boxes out there?
