Sealant for between kitchen cupboard and tiles

Hi

Just wondered if anyone could help me - I am after sealing a gap between a kitchen cupboard and kitchen floor which is made of tile - will standard bathroom sealant be strong enough to seal this or do I need something different.

I have had a few ants crawling through and I know I need to solve the heart of the problem, but need a solution for the gap as well !!!

Thanks

You should be able to get generic kitchen/bathroom silicon sealant to go around the edges.

We did this for ours when we put new vinyl tiles down in the kitchen, to give a neat finish :)

Does the cupboard sit directly on the tiled floor?

They usually sit on legs with a plinth covering the gap.

Yeah the plinth has a small gap in it and not level with tile floor

Ordinary silicone sealant will do the trick. As always, just make sure both the tiles and the plinth are perfectly clean, with no trace of grease, before you start. A wipe over with meths is good for this. Silicone commonly comes in clear, white and brown colours - choose the one that suits your situation. Though clear is not particularly good at disguising gaps.

You can also get black silicone sealant. It's a branded one that's about a tenner - so a bit more than others, but if you have a black floor and you are neat about it, it gives a good finish and covers the gap.

I'd tend to match either the plinth, or the floor, if you can. White may be best!

You could put strips of narrow insulation designed for weather sealing doors on the bottom face of the plinth.

That might be enough to prevent ants and other insects getting through although they will get through a tiny gap.

    Something like this maybe.
