I have just received my Annual Reward Summary and was surprised to note Halifax have paid tax @ 20%.

I guess HMRC regard this as other income? Those who earn less than their tax allowance could reclaim a very small amount and those paying 40% will have an additional liability.

It is indeed "other income" and treated for tax purposes as you indicate above.

Yes Halifax do, if you earn less then the allowance you can claim it back using the R40 form, I have claimed back the £15 each year for the last five or so years.

I have not had this years yet but will be doing the same when it does, I just put the 75p tax paid in the other box and claim back the total of £9 from the reward payment, for both accounts, minus the cost of the stamps to send the form in and the summary.
