It seems as though you've been quite happy to experience a very "traditional" marriage, almost as though it's still the 1950s. Now, suddenly, you've had a wake-up call. But your husband hasn't had the same kind of light-bulb moment and he's probably going to take a bit more than a few nudges to get with the programme. Have a look at some of the threads in the death, wills etc section to see what can happen when people leave their finances in a mess. At any rate, it's time you stood up and started to be financially involved in your marriage which includes sharing bank accounts at the very least.0

Did your husband already own the house before you were married? If not, why weren't you made joint owner from the outset? Is he much older than you?0
