I must admit, it does sound like a bit of a houx

Well it isn't, but I find it disgusting people from this site are getting it for £0.00. Especially those saying they were going to get it anyway.

They'll be releasing a deluxe CD / vinyl version with extra tracks and all sorts of sexy artwork, it'll cost £40. I have no doubt a lot of people will buy it.

I'm reminded of the band Shellac who released an album called "1000 Hurts" in 2000 or 2001 - the vinyl version came on top quality, thick-as-you-like vinyl with great packaging, but also it came with a copy of the album on CD. Make of that what you will.

At the very least these two examples make it clear that things can operate on a different level.... it's a difficult one, but the music industry is in a state. Talking of Shellac, music and money - Shellac's guitarist Steve Albini wrote the following article:

Some of you have probably seen it a thousand times, it does the rounds every so often among musicians. It's interesting from a financial point of view too. (A few spicy words in there!).
Some of my greatest heroes wore eye patches, there was Kirk Douglas .... me on a Friday night ... did I mention Kirk Douglas?

They aren't stupid.. they know that people are going to download it for free and they will make their money back. Its all over the news today that people can pay what they like for it... a lot of people will just download it because they have heard it all over the news nd want to see what all the fuss is about, and some of those people will become big fans and end up buying previous albums and future albums. It all good publicity at the end of the day.

Oooh they're a tease... I'm one of the first in the queue for anything free, but then when it comes to music if its a good record that I'll be enjoying for years I want to give the artist some appropriate reward for that... imo Radiohead don't do bad music, though I appreciate for many 55p may be wasted

Sounds like you have a problem then. The band is giving the option of downloading for whatever price you wish. There's no reason anyone should feel guilty for downloading it free.
  • fair enough but as a massive radiohead fan, i don't think that paying 0.00p is very fair on them!
    :A
  • Just paid £3.45
Love Radiohead, Have all of their albums.

    Thanks Guys
  • Love Radiohead too, and am really glad they are releasing a new album. They've always been a little eccentric, but like others said they will no doubt make the money back in other ways. I'll probably download the album, to check I want to hear more and then ask for the box set for Christmas (or something!)
