Yellow Box Junction PCN! Appeal Help Needed!

Hello all,

I just received a PCN through the post from Merton Council, which states:

31J - Entering and stopping in a box junction when prohibited

I have provide evidence below: tinypic.com/r/mr8div/9, to help get the best possible advice from anyone out there! I remember this incident as it was only two or so weeks ago.

So I drove into the box with slight hesitancy over whether there was enough room to brake, considering the distance between me and the van behind. As you can clearly see, my brake lights begin very early so the intention to stop is there, but having checked my rear view mirror, I didn't think at the time there was enough space.

I proceeded to roll into the box junction slowly, picking up the pace to try and clear the area as soon as possible, but found myself approaching the back of the car in front very closely. I believe I left as much room as possible for any vehicles to enter/exit via the opposite side of the road and the road to my left, respectively.

This is my first PCN, so I'm slightly annoyed that it's come from something like this. Can anyone enlighten me to any solid grounds of appeal I may have with this!?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Should have used the right hand lane temporarily, then merged. I would have done, without a doubt.

    See what pepipoo say:

If it's TFL there is every chance they'll muck it up, IMHO. Can't see much other 'out' with it.
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).
