I opened 2 credit cards, maxed them with BTs and made minimum payments. My score tanked. A month later I opened another credit card and maxed it with a BT. Go figure.

HiThey said the reason for the score drop is 'because I've moved into a higher group of comparative people' as my credit behaviour is now Good and not Poor. Based against this new group my score is lower.

Just shows what a nonsense this 'score' business is.

If Equifax review your enquiry/complaint and reply

'Sorry, mdrodgers75 we have reviewed your file and realise your score of 567 was too low and have amended it to 765'

This will have no effect whatsoever on your remortgage.

Lenders don't see your credit score. They will make their decision based on your credit history
  • Thank you everyone.
  • Sorry a separate but perhaps related query that I have is that I have a joint credit card with my wife which I have not used for some time and am wondering if its better from a credit rating point of view to keep the cards running or contact the credit card company and close them ?

Depends on your circumstances - income, balances limits and other available credit to name a few.

I don't think there is such a thing as a true joint credit card. One person is responsible for the debt racked up by the additional card holder. As they can go mad on the plastic knowing they can walk away from the debt, then I don't see how it can have a positive effect on your rating.

Does it show up on your credit file?
