For the Peugeot 406 SALOON 2000, petrol.

The thermostat housing has 3 different coloured sensors coming in to it, green, blue, and brown.

What are each of these, and their job ??

One is the engine temperature sensor,
which shows you the on the dashboard, the temperature of the engine

Here are pictures.

So new stat and the temperature is now ok... So why does it matter what the sensors do?

I would doubt it shows engine temp, more likely it will be coolant temp.

At a guess their function, signals to gauge, cooling fan and ECU.
    Don’t be a can’t, be a can.

The blue sensor feeds the temperature gauge, green feeds the ECU and brown is for the cooling fan. (assuming that this https://www.thepeugeotforums.com/threads/406-cooling-fan-which-sensor.3229/ is correct)
