You talk about jobs. Jobs jobs jobs. Like they were minimum wage shelf stacking jobs. At 25k let alone 32k you are looking for work that is reasonably skilled that requires certain skill sets and characteristics, not "jobs" that any old tom can do.
What is your background and how do the roles that you apply for match that background? Do your skill sets match closely what is required? Can you confidently say you can do what the role is advertised as or do you think you can just learn it along the way or adapt or dare I say blag it a little bit..?
I would say the two main reasons you are not being sucessful in your search is you are applying for any old job regardless of how or no experienced or qualified you actually are for it (regardless of whether you think you are suitable, which is a different thing).
Secondly the behaviours required of a condidate for a 30k plus role are generally different to that of a 25k role, for example at the higher salary you are not expected to have things spoon fed to you, you are expected to go out there and pro actively do things. You are expected to engage with people in a different way, etc etc. Have you evidenced that on your cv and or / during your interviews?
Your generic experience is also holding you back so tailor your cv to eliminate the stuff that you think isn't relevant and keep and expand on the thigns that you would like to do in future roles, don't lie but you can extend and expand on what you state you did in terms of areas that interest you.
Finally, drop that wishy washy attitude, focus on what you want in terms of career, and use your new cv and attitude to convey that message out when interviewing. Can you answer the question where do you want to be in 5 years, in a focused way that the interviewer wants to hear.
If you want to advance as you say, then study and get qualifications, build your experience 2 - 3 years at a lower level then get a more senior position doing something similar, you will never get 35k+ doing unskilled work unless you do something unpleasant / dangerous like oil rig work.0 -
I'm not applying for any old, job far from it. If anything I might be over cautious in making sure I fulfill the majority, if not all of requirements.
There are a fair few jobs advertised at 25-32k in areas that I have experience. Living where I do (close to London) this is the going rate and being on 25k now I don't particularly want to drop salary.
I agree about the being spoon fed thing making a difference in salary. Currently I work pretty much unsupervised over multiple offices so feel I do have experience in that area.
Its not all about the salary though. I'd be happy to stay the same if the job were really interesting / gave me the chance to gain new skills.
I do agree about being focused. That's always been my problem! I wish I had a certain career and not just a series of generic jobs but I can't see that changing and I agree its holding me down.0 -
Hi Fireflyaway
Have you made any speculative applications? In the past, I have been offered a number of jobs after applying via this method.:EasterBun0
