Getting frustrated now!

If anyone has any motivational advice that would be great! I've been looking for work for a few months now. Have posted about it before so some of you may know.
Its getting to the point I'm losing my confidence. I have applied for countless jobs and had 3 unsuccessful interviews. I look every day and apply for as many things as I can but don't seem to be getting anywhere fast. Had my CV checked and bit looks to be OK.
I'm applying for jobs in the 27- 32k range. Currently I'm on 25k. I don't see that as too ambitious but maybe I'm wrong? Maybe its the fact I have a very foreign sounding name? Maybe its because I have poor shoe choice I don't know?!
Any ideas?

Try to align CV to the job you are applying for &/or make the covering letter specific to the top 10 elements of the person specification. Ensure these are written as 'competencies' (i.e. provide situation you have demonstrated that competence they are looking for, explain what you did and what the outcome was.
Get feedback from the interview and try to learn from these comments.
Research the Organisation before the interview.
Get top 5 Q's to ask them after the formal part of the interview.
Just remember its a numbers game and nothing personal !
Each rejection is one step closer to a job offer !!Debt is a symptom, solve the problem.0 -
Thanks enjoyyourshoes! I think I have been doing these things. First interview actually gave good feedback. I didn't get it because I didn't have experience in a particular area. Fair enough. The others won't say.
I know its not personal but being ignored / told you are unsuccessful several times a week for a few months knocks your confidence. I don't feel I am proactive enough but can't think what else to do.
I guess you are right every application is a step closer.0 -
I have an interview with company number 5 next week. It would seem I can get to 2nd/3rd interview stage but then I get rejected for the person with better experience. I'm just exhausted now... Have you signed up with recruitment agencies? 1 CV and they do the rest...(not that I've had any luck, but it's nice to think that you are applying with minimal effort!)0

Thanks velvet glove. Good luck to you!
I just feel a bit helpless. If there was more I could do I would. Just don't know what it is!
I have registered with all the local agencies and job boards. I get loads of emails with 'matches'. Everything from security guards to German speaking advisors, chefs and mechanics! However nothing more. I know my experience is a bit generic. I don't have as particular trade so to speak but thought I'd find something a bit easier.0 -
It's bad for companies to refuse to give feedback after you've attended an interview. My suspicion would be that the job went to an internal applicant, and the ad was merely to cover their backs with others higher up the tree.0

Do you have a LinkedIn account? I've found their job alerts service quite useful as you can filter it to area, sector, level, etc.0

This is going to sound hard - are you showing enough passion?
I'm just minded to think back to January when someone wanted to proceed with my application to interview but warned that whilst I knew the inside of the job function I wasn't convincing them just why that organisation/industry. (The thing was I'd managed to secure a temp position in another part of the organisation weeks earlier and couldn't display what they needed to see for a perm position) I don't know something clicked when I couldn't put on what they needed to see, I didn't have a genuine interest in what the organisation did, it was just a job that paid slightly better above the others and I felt liberated when I turned it down.
Are you to much of a risk - to long termer? Perhaps some person is thinking why would someone give up x amount of stable years - for possibly less and could be thinking actually it would do you a dis service. Perhaps there is shed loads of job applicants and those that can start immediately - I know I can recall twice this year of a job posting showing 80+ within 24 hours and had been literally taken down.
Can't you keep hold of when a recruitment agent tells you - you have a great CV all stuff like that. Write it down even but I know that, that can last longer then clicking some apply button pretty fast and furious! What's the hurry you have all the time to find a job you know will be a good fit. That's how I now view it.0 -
Thanks everyone. You know I think the second interview job did go to an internal. At interview they said how the person in the position I was going for had moved on within the company. Later that week I saw a new ad for the position below the one I applied for with exactly the same end date ( it was fixed term) so I think someone internal was promoted into it.
The most recent one left me hanging before saying I was unsuccessful. Then I noticed a new ad for that post but with a lower salary.....
I see the point about being passionate. I'm always worried about sounding fake so I guess I might come across too cold without realising. Last time I did say something about wanting to progress my career to the highest level. In hindsight maybe they thought I'd stay 5 mins and leave?!
So annoying!0 -
It's so irritating why they just can't be honest - I know legally they have to advertise but it's such a waste of both your time and theirs with application and interview. I applied for a job once and it went to someone who was on the interview panel!
My mum says job hunting is a numbers game and that ours will come up eventually.0 -

Its getting to the point I'm losing my confidence. I have applied for countless jobs and had 3 unsuccessful interviews. I look every day and apply for as many things as I can but don't seem to be getting anywhere fast. - for a £30k job you should be applying with individual covering letter / application. One or two a day. Had my CV checked and bit looks to be OK. - ok? well 'ok' will only fill out the 'prerequisite' 5 candidates to interview, are you getting new qualifications in your field?
I'm applying for jobs in the 27- 32k range. Currently I'm on 25k. - are you currently working, or was that previous job? I don't see that as too ambitious but maybe I'm wrong? Maybe its the fact I have a very foreign sounding name? - unlikely if you're getting to interview statge Maybe its because I have poor shoe choice I don't know?!
Any ideas?
Poor shoe choice? Possibly, I don't know.
I mean you've got to dress up for interview. Typically I'd expect someone to dress down day to day, so if you're dressed down for interview they may think you aren't going to put the effort in?0
