Contents insurance plus extra items

A friend is about to buy contents insurance for his home, but it is astronomical. He is using the same insurer as he doesn't understand how to look at comparison sites. I said I would take a look, but I do not want to give his personal details away. Also, he has a lot of professional musical equipment that needs to be insured (as an add-on??), and I don't know if that would require calling a company, as opposed to doing an online comparison. Does anyone have any advice, please?

You may find it cheaper (and with more suitable cover) to insure professional musical equipment seperately.

I'm betting that's a big factor in why the current price is astronomical?

Thanks paddyandstumpy. Any idea how to find a competitive insurance quote for musical equipment?

    Google?

Check the terms though. If they are used professionally it's a different risk from amateur use.

A quick Google brings up some companies for music equipment only insurance; read through the policy terms if possible before proceeding, get some prices, and make sure that the sum insured is enough to cover your friends' kit.

Other than that, he'd just need a low-price contents plan for everything else again with an adequate level of cover, which is best found through a comparison site as above.

Does he have cover for the equipment during transport, storage and whilst in use?
