Tips for artificial grass on concrete floor

Hi,
a large part of our patio is just ugly concrete, and we consider putting artificial grass on it. However, one problem with the concrete is that after rain water keeps standing there. Without anything, the water and puddles dry out rather quickly. However, when we had a bit of (left-over) very thin artificial grass (more like a carpet), then it didn't dry for ages.
We are now looking at better products and were wondering whether for the water / staying wet issue it is better to have thicker grass (keeps you "away" from the water), or thinner one (dries better).
Any experiences?

Drill plenty of drainage holes before laying anything, as a start.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

Sorry, forgot to mention that. Yes, that's the plan as well.0

That's the best solution other than doing it properly (breaking up the concrete and laying the AG on a grano to dust bed)
Just do the drainage holes first on your 'test' piece and see if that gets around your problem.

Any tips on whether rather thin (possibly dries quickly) or thick (creates more distance between sole and wet floor, but possibly dries slow) grass is better? Both would be good quality, just a different style.0

Presumably you want the fake grass for children or dogs?
But if not, then I would say don't do it and put lots of plants in pots there instead.0 -
Yes, for children (and us). Shall help to keep the sand (of the sandpit) out of the kitchen and is nicer to walk bare feet. It is just part of the patio, the rest looks better (slabs and real grass). however, we currently don't have the money for a proper solution.
Why wouldn't you do it?0 -
Good quality artificial grass is great. Don't get cheap thin grass.
If you have drainage holes, then I would think putting down a few cm of sand on top of the concrete should keep your artificial grass more dry, but I'm not certain. Try it!
It's normal to install on a bed of sand.0
