Power of attorney

Hi, could anybody tell me how much a solicitor would charge, to name me as a power of attorney on behalf of my mother, many thanks

    Far too much! You can do it online for just the cost of LPOA. Solicitors will charge several hundred on top of the fees.

    YM is right, assuming that:

    (a) your mother has the capacity to give you power of attorney (if she doesn't, then it's a whole world of excitement with the Court of Protection, for which you might need professional help) and

    (b) your mother isn't proposing some crazy scheme of a limited POA (ie, one where the POA limits what the attorney can do) in which case, if she's foolish enough to go that route, a solicitor might be able to draft a clause which is slightly less likely to result in disaster.

    If your mother has lost capacity to apply for an LPA, then you would need to apply to the court of protection for deputyship, but again you can do this without the need for a solicitor, unless there are complications like feuding siblings.
