    They are designed to pay out less than the average payment in, not the OPs specific amount. They could easily pay out several x the cost (or conversely they might actually only pay out a very small percentage of the amount paid in)

    Same as any other sort of insurance product, you are guarding against the wholly unaffordable catastrophic event, which in this case is living longer than expected.

    I would go for a quick sale; you do not need any extra stress and hassle in your life. Try and enjoy the time you have left with your dad. He's lucky he's got children who are researching all options for his best interests.
