Quoted gas boiler work

Hi all
I am after some general advice as Citizens advice talk in riddles
The gas boiler at my tenanted property broke down a couple of months ago and I got my normal engineer (who had already had several hundred pounds out of me for other boiler work in the previous months) to carry out a survey and quote for the repair.
He sent a quote over saying the following:
‘ Fault code relates to air pressure switch as previously thought, that’s why the hot water isn’t working as boiler is dropping out’
In total £151, I gave the go ahead and he attended the property and carried out the work. I then received a text in the evening saying it hadn't worked and it could be a number of other things and how did I want to proceed.
I had already spent out a lot of money on the boiler and decided that a replacement would be better than 'trying this and that' and throwing even more money into it. His quote for a replacement was over a £1000 more than other competitors so I went with someone else.
My question is, am I liable for that £151 quoted job as it did not fix the fault. Citizens Advice say that he should be an expert in his trade and should have a knowledge of what is wrong. It seems extremely unfair that I should payout for something because if his misdiagnosis.
Any advice would be most welcome as they are currently threatening court actions

Did he misdiagnose or was that just one of the faults?
How old was the boiler?
How much time, energy and money do you want to spend arguing over that amount?0 -
Yes you should pay, he came and attempted to repair your faulty boiler.
They are not like cars where you can plug them in and the computer tells you whats wrong, so fault finding isn't as easy as what you seem to think it is.
He could have been elsewhere working for other people who have no problem paying up.
