Washing machine now making a grating sound

Hi.
I took some washing out of the machine and noticed the drum was making a metal on metal sound.
It's a quite new Miele washer still under guarantee .
Do you think I've possibly got something metal that's slipped into the drum ?
If this is the case will I have to pay a charge to Miele as it's my fault?

My first thought is the drum bearing is disintegrating.

Does the drum spin freely by hand when empty or is it sort of "lumpy"? If you grab the drum and try to lift it, there shouldn't be any movement or free play.

If it spins freely and there's no free play, it could be that something has become trapped between inner and outer drums. Bit of wire from a bra, perhaps? It should be easy to tell the difference when you spin it by hand.

Mine did this years ago - turned out to be the underwire bit of an underwire bra, that had gone down one of the drainage holes in the drum and got itself stuck (the joys of having 4 daughters!!).

If it is a bra wire, it won't be covered by the warranty. I now handwash all my bras!

Quite possibly yes, run your hand all over the inside of the drum carefully, you may be able to feel something sticking through.
Will they charge? We never used to but things have changed over the years & I don't know how benevolent Miele are nowadays.

Thanks, I'm not at home and now and can't check the drum to see how it turns.
There were a couple of bras in there and I haven't checked to see if the wire has come out but I agree it's a possibility.
I decided to book a visit for when I return home because I would rather use Miele as it's still under guarantee and I dont want to
void the warranty . I'm hoping I don't have to pay as they aren't cheap but I guess if I have to i will just have to pay . Ouch .
I seem to remember that the drum was hard to turn and not particularly smooth.
