Hi! I just have a questions about suspending/holding car policy from Admiral. Let's say I insure car in July and then I'd like to suspend it in October/November as I wouldn't want to use car during winter and make a SORN.

1) Is it possible?
2) How much does it cost?
3) How many times can I do it? Can I don't use car two times during my policy? Let's say from October to December and then from Fabruary to April?
4) For every month I don't use car my policy will be expended for this number of months?

What are your experiences? Preferably with Admiral as they have the best offer for mebut I'd be happy to hear your experiences with other companies too!

It's lovely to drive a car every weekend during spring/summer but not necessary during autumn/winter when I only get to work by bike.

Thanks!

I think it's best to ask admiral direct for an official accurate answer.

The thing is that it's not possible to send then an e-mail. That's weird but it looks like you have to be an existing customer to get your answer as you have to give your policy number.

Of course I can call them and that's what I'm gonna do but I'm always happier to get some information "on the paper" in case I don't understand something by phone. :-)

Maybe somebody else? Of course I'll let you know after I call them and get that information straight from Admiral as it looks it's not popular case but might be useful not only for me!

Unless the premium is really high to begin with, laying a car up (removing the TP element of cover) for 2 months at a time would probably be outweighed by the admin fee they'd charge.

And I wouldn't have thought someone like Admiral would offer this, it's something I've only ever seen/dealt with via a Broker.

What is it for? An historic car for the summer? You might find specialist insurers to talk to.

Are you planning to leave the car entirely uninsured when it's SORN?

You'd probably have to just cancel and re-start the insurance, but if you're just dropping between fully comp and 3rd party you might not save any money anyway. Your policy should already take mileage into account (and if you're not using it over the winter your mileage should be pretty low). There are classic car policies that account for this sort of thing as well which might be worth investigating.
