Calling EON? Beware!

Hello all,
I just wanted to put out a general warning for anyone planning to call EON. AVOID at all costs calling 0872 407 0177.
I'm usually quite careful with my mobile bill (averaging about £15 a month) and was shocked this month to receive a bill for £40! On closer investigation I realised that on the day we completed on our new flat we visited our property and I called what I thought was the existing energy company (EON), I can't remember where I got the number from but I certainly wouldn't have used it if I had been aware that it was costing me 0.55p a minute.
After going through all the options and being placed on hold for a length of time I went through the process of finding out if EON were indeed the suppliers. Turns out is wasn't them despite evidence the contrary. A 38 minute call cost me over £21!!
I'm aware that this is down to my own ignorance (and excitement at having just completed on our new home) but I don't want anyone else to fall into the same trap. To the best of my recollection there was no warning about the cost of call and had I been aware I certainly wouldn't have naively sat on hold for such a long time.
Be careful which number you call when contacting EON!

Where did you get that number from? On E.ON's website most of the contact numbers are 0345 numbers and there's no mention of that number.

Good morning Eucalyptus84
Thank you Chino, that's helpful as I'm unable to post links.
I'm sorry that you had to hold on the phone, I'm also unsure about where that number is from.
As Chino has said, most of the numbers are on the website, but we do offer other ways to contact us if you need to. There's a moving home form on the website, or we have the new Live Chat, email etc.
I understand it turns out we weren't the supplier, but if I can help in the future please let me know.
Thank you

As regards phone numbers, avoid calling any starting 087 unless you're totally desperate and out of other options (or Philip Green is footing the bill).0
