Hi, my wife and I, both pensioners, have a 46 year old severely mentally disabled son, who is almost totally deaf and suffers with Reynauds Syndrome which means we have to keep the house warm for him during the winter which costs a fortune in gas, he receives a few benefits but my query is although neither of us is eligible for a new boiler grant does anyone know if we can claim one on behalf of our son, my wife and I are the house owners but wondered because our son lives with us will his benefits entitle us to claim? I am wondering if you might be eligible for a Disabled Facilities Grant.

Have you tried speaking to your energy suppliers.

You should be able to register for the Priority Services Register
https://www.ofgem.gov.uk/consumers/household-gas-and-electricity-guide/extra-help-energy-services/priority-services-register-people-need
Once registered, some suppliers have a team to help their priority customers.

Some energy companies also have trusts who can give grants, it might be worth exploring your situation with these trusts.

http://www.britishgasenergytrust.org.uk/ (which does list boiler replacement). From memory, you don't need to be a BG customer to access this fund.

Not sure about the Green Deal as it was much less generous than government's previous schemes, but worth a look:

Worth contacting your local council, as some had energy projects to help their residents access grants for energy efficiency Google Warm & Safe on their website. for example:

Pensioners or not the criteria in the past has been that the household income is part funded via a means tested benefit - mainly Pension Credit for pensioners
