Hello
Just for giggles, I used the claims guys to see if I had any PPI left to claim in the financial world.
They came back to me and said I had one with Egg.
I've chosen to write off to Canada Square and claim independently.
(All of this has been in the last week).
Yesterday I got a letter from the claims guys saying that Egg cannot find my account information and without further information, I cannot claim my PPI.
I've read lots of forums on Egg and people have said they can be quite difficult as the company that bought them out don't have old account information.
(My loan was 2003-2008)
I don't have any account information from my old loan. The email address I had that used back in 2003 has been shut down and it's been confirmed that I can no longer access that account.
I haven't kept any letters or paperwork.
In my letter to Canada Square, I enclosed my credit report from 2009 showing I had an account with Egg. How much I paid a month, when it started, when it settled and duration of loan, however, doesn't show account number or that I had PPI. But, it's proof, I did have an account.
So, questions are:
1) how did the claim guys find I had PPI with Egg, if the company cannot find my account?
2) has anyone successfully got their PPI back from Egg without their account information since Egg was bought out?
3) Can you send a SAR to the company who bought out Egg and get account information from 2003, if they appear to not be able to find my account?
There could be between £5,000 due to me, so clearly feeling a little anxious about it all.
Thanks
Lou

It sounds as if the records were archived with only top line information retained. You could try a SAR0

Will they have enough information to give me a SAR?0

If Egg are writing to the CMC, it suggests you have given them permission to act on your behalf. Have you signed anything from them?0 -

I have not signed anything to the claims guys for them to proceed with my application. They have written to me asking for further information if I wish to go ahead with my application.
To which, I don't have, other than my credit report that shows the egg loan on it.0 -

You don't even know if you had PPI. The CMC have no way of finding out without your consent. What is your reason for complaint if you did have it?
You submit a subject access request, they do not give you it. As stated, they will send you whatever information they still hold.0 -

I gave them initial permission to search all my accounts to see if I had PPI left on any of my accounts unclaimed.
The only one they came back with was Egg. I've already claimed on the ones I could find paperwork on.
I have not given them signed permission to complete the claim.
My complaint is mis-sold PPI.0 -

You'll need to explain why you feel you were missold.
The CMC cannot tell if you had PPI without Egg telling them, they don't have a crystal ball.
Submit the SAR and see what they come back with.0 -

Yes, I have already done that.
As per my initial post, that's not my concern.
I've already written to them independently, as already mentioned in my initial post, and complained.
I have other questions, which are on my initial post, that I'm querying.
Crystal ball only required in trying to find my account information which are lost in a closed down email account.
SAR has been suggested, and I will do that... but would love to know other people's experiences of reclaiming PPI on Egg.
Thank you for your time.0 -
If Egg cannot find your account information, how do the claims guys even know you had PPI in the first place. Only Egg could tell them that, only they cannot find your account.
The claims guys have no better access to the accounts than you, yourself do.
Think carefully about proceeding yourself, you may find yourself in deep water with the claims guys as you may have unwittingly given them permission to take a percentage of anything you get back by simply involving them at the start.
Also remember that not all PPI was mis-sold, and you will need to have a valid reason for complaint.
Without the account information, account number, dates of loan etc. then the unless the SAR reveals anything then the complaint is dead in the water anyway.0
