looks like they are pine and have been stained/varnished in past, wanting to change them to white,
any suggestions welcome as to best , quickest and easiest way to do this.
hopefully without sanding.

I think you'll find stripping more hassle than sanding. You only need to sand enough to key (dull) the original surface before priming and painting. I've done this successfully with wooded stained & varnished doors0

forgot to add that doors are pine
thanks flashg67 for the prompt reply, any recommendations as to which is the best primer and paint to use
current ones look like stain and clear varnish , they are a sort of beech colourNice to save.0 -
Bullseye is about the best you can get in my opinion, but of course something else cheaper might do the job.0

I've never had any problems painting over varnish. I always sand it however to make the surface dull, so that the new paint sticks well. It's important to get the new paint to stick properly, both because it helps it look good and last, but also because if it peels you have a big mess to sort out later. If it's an outside surface, I would always prime it before painting.
Also, when painting surface that meet, such as door frames and windows, I would sand the surfaces where they meet a bit more if there's a build up of paint/varnish already. If you let the paint build up too much, you can end up with the door sticking and being difficult to close. Using a bit of coarse sandpaper on these areas, then smoothing it with some finer paper doesn't take too long.0 -
any recommendations as to which is the best paint to use on wood
there are so many satinwood, vinyl, eggshell etc

The most commonly used paint for wood is gloss.
Nowadays the other option is satinwood.
Vinyl silk and vinyl matt are usually used on walls.
Give the varnish a light sand.
Apply a couple of coats of undercoat (no need for knotting compound or primer).
Use thin coats and let each one dry before applying the next coat.
Apply as many coats as needed so the door looks white. Then apply top coat of gloss or satinwood. I usually use Dulux, but use whatever brand takes your fancy.
Use a good quality brush, and apply in the same direction as the grain. Harris brushes are good. You will also need a small angeled brush for doing around the glass panes.
I assume you're talking about an internal door, but if external then make sure you use external paint.0 -
