clocked car
last july i bought a jap import 8 seater car from a d dealer that specialises in imported jap cars , at the time i did have a few issues with the jobs he promised to do i.e.: service tyres etc, ( i did post on here at the time) anyway after he did t he jobs i went to a garage local to me who also specialises in these types of cars and paid to have the jobs done properly.
i love the car and its a great runner,
however in dec 16 i received a letter from wigan trading standards asking me to ring them.
long story short he told me that DVLA had been in contact regarding my car.
after a few questions he told me that it had been clocked and that a big investigation was ongoing to see who was involved.
basically the mileage had been halved .
I've since found out a lad on our forum has bought a car from the same dealer and he has just found out that his car as also been clocked by half as well. and a possible 3rd one is emerging
I've tried to contact trading standards via email but that just refer me back to citizens advice. they make a note of my new info and pass it on, and that trying to get any info from trading standards is like trying to get blood from a stone ,
im not naming garage on here as it may alert the dealer and don't want him to vanish,
do i just sit tight and hope that DVLA and trading standards are working on iy,
i reported him to auto trader who were interested at first then back tracked when i said it was being investigated

Are you sure its not just the KM to Miles conversion thats been carried out. That would have the affect of reducing the displayed KMs to miles, and then an adapter fitted so the speedo now then in effect works in miles and not KMs.
1 Mile = approx 1.6KMs, so displayed mileage would be almost half.0 -
Yep, quite possibly someone has bought a car and got themselves an OBD reader and not clicked that the reader is showing KM and not miles as per the dash.
We get one on my forum every now and then. Bought a clocked car... Mileage showint as xxx and the dash says xxx.
Simple answer and most dont reply... 10,000 Miles x 1.6 = 16,000 Km and the OBD tool is reading in Km's where the dash is in Miles.
Sorts most of them out.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
Yep.
"OMG I bought a car which they said had done 50,000 miles and my Torque Pro app says its done 80,000" isn't unknown. Usually it turns out they took no notice of the "km" at the end of the higher figure and that the speedo is in MPH.This is a system account and does not represent a real person. Often the OBD tool wont show miles or KM though.
It was only when someone posted up their car had 56,000 miles yet the reader said 90,000 that i clicked. Lorry restricted to 56MPH or 90KPH
close enough to be the answer.
Turned out the figures i gave them turned out to be spot on, even though they only put a rough estimate of the mileage.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
It's high time that everyone changed to kms.

We were supposed to change to the SI system back in 1970.

Which is good for people who count on their fingers but not a lot else

Men on the moon?
Fake news - it never happened!
