Home Insurance Quotes - If you are a couple, BOTH get a quote...

Hi all
Apologies in advance if this is well documented knowledge and I am late to the party...
But it has just come to House Insurance renewal time for my partner and I. She got a new on line quote from a different provider a couple of days ago (because our current provider had hiked the premium a large amount). We did not go through with the quote for reason or another, but then yesterday decided we will go ahead with it. But she was at work, so I did it instead. The quote came in at around £20 more when I did.
So this morning we have both got quotes again with the same results. All data input is the same (aside from her quote is in her name, mine in mine, but in both cases we have each other as joint policy holders).
I just thought I'd give a heads up and get this info out there for others. I was never aware of it and wonder now how many times I may have potentially paid more in the past just because it was in my name and not hers.
Cheers

As an element of home insurance is rated on the age of the proposer and (more often nowadays) things like credit score, it's not a surprise that premiums change depending on proposer.
They'll also rate on things like the amount of days between quote and inception, the greater the number of days the bigger the discount.
Some insurers are also using loyalty card data (like Nectar) and rating based on shopping habits. If I hadn't of seen that last one with my own eyes I wouldn't believe it, but it does happen!0 -

That could well play a part as she is two years my senior. Although that being said, in both instances we did it as joint policy holders with the other person listed on there as well...paddyandstumpy wrote: »and (more often nowadays) things like credit score
I checked mine recently and it was about as good as a credit score can be

I don't think that has played a part in our case. it is due for renewal tomorrow. My partner did quotes Thursday and today, with the same lower price both times. My higher priced quote was done yesterday.paddyandstumpy wrote: »Some insurers are also using loyalty card data (like Nectar) and rating based on shopping habits. I can well believe it! But in our case, all our loyalty cards and the like are in joint names... So I'm not sure if it would have had an effect....0 -
Sounds like it's just the age thing then.
The other suggestions mentioned won't apply to the whole market, but my last company used all of them.0
