Hey guys and girls first post on here so be nice 😃.. Ive recently wrote to santander about bank charges from 2011 which sent me into really bad debt ... Long story short is they have agreed to refund me .. But the figure they gave me was 400 pounds exactly .. My question is should i say yes or ask for more as i know the charges add to 1000+ without any interest added ? Many thanks in advance ..

Basically i broke my leg back in 2011 i had a great credit score etc had a credit card with santander with about 2500 limit .. Didnt have an overdraft on my account as i never needed it .. When i had the acccident i asked for an overdraft to stop me going into unarranged it was only 50 quid i asked for which they point blank refused .. So in turn i went about 4 pound overdrawn to which they charged me daily 20 pound or ao and then 30 at the end of the week this happened for over 12 weeks .. When my salary went in which had been reduced due to not working they took it all to cover the fee then as soon as my credit card payment went out the cycle started again this actually put me into a very bad situation as they then refused to let any of my direct debits go out as the charges were racking up .. I ended up about 5k in debt which has been all resolved thank god and only now are they admitting they were wrong and will refund .. But only 400 pounds .0

Are you sure they have admitted they are wrong? Or is it a goodwill gesture like most financial hardship refunds?I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). Thinking actually im sure she said they were refunding the charges as a goodwill .. Does that mean im safer accepting the offer.0

I think you've answered your own question.0

Goodwill payments come with no admission of liability and there will certainly be no interest attached. Also bear in mind that such offers can be withdrawn completely if you demand more.0

Banks won a court case in 2009 about ufiair charges.
They do not have to refund any money.
They may refund money if you are currently in financial harshdip or they may decide to make a goodwill getsture as they have for you.
If you don't take it, they are not obliged to offer you more, and neither can they be compelled to offer you more.Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi0 -
They arent obliged to offer you more
They can wthdraw the offer at any time
As advised above.
Its a no brainer - take the money and run ....make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0
