Hi I am trying to raise a few floorboards in my lounge by levering a screwdriver between the gaps. However the wood seems to split or dent and not raise. Is there a special method to doing this that anyone can advise me on please - thanks

Make sure you are levering near the nails that are holding them down. to stop the damageing the surrounding boards put another screwdriver under them to protect them. once you can get a claw hammer under the board use that to lever the thing up.
Watch out for any pipes that may be under there when your putting them back down. you don't want to go sticking a nail through any of them.0 -
a sharp thin chisel is required to cut the tongue off.
or if skillful with a circular saw, you can saw the tongue off. care is needed to set the depth correctly, (just enough) and not to cut any pipes/cables etc...Get some gorm.0
