So i complained regarding my faulty wireless mouse from a business through amazon. I received an email ito say they would process a refund not realising that it would be on to a old card/bank account details that i was in my list of bank details on amazon.

2 weeks passed and i realised there was no refund into my current account. I phoned amazon and it appears they sent the refund money to an old credit card i havent used for years and no longer have.

They said it was my responsiblity to phone my bank and chase the money? However this is an old card and the details of which i no longer know and so woudlnt know which bank it was or bank account/card no etc and dont know how to chase it. Shoudlnt amazon at least tell me what the full details are of this card, name of card provider so that i can try and chase up?

Amazon have said,

"We're required to process all refunds to the original payment method used when you placed an order, so we can’t change your refund to another payment card / another payment method."

Shouldn't amazon chase this for me and provide me a refund? Cant amazon retract this transaction or get that money back?
The money has been apprently sent to a credit card account that i no longer have. This seems bonkers

Do i have to guess and and phone up every credit card i think i may have had? Amazon say that have fulfilled their responsibility of processing a refund but i dont the money. What should i do? I have tried Tesco credit card (whom i know i had several lost cards in the past with) and they have no record of me having the same details of the card the amazon refund went to (last 4 digits i have from amazon)

Presumably you know the number of the card that has been credited?

If so, you can work out the type of card, e.g. Visa or Mastercard, and which institution issued the card.

Search the web for something like Payment card number.

It really isn't Amazon's fault that you have left expired personal information on their website.
  • I had a recent similar situation, with a refund from Amazon going back onto a credit card I had closed (Aqua). Called Aqua and they refunded it back to my bank account in about a week.

I didn't know or need my old card number - they just looked up my details after confirming name, address, DOB etc.

Actually that probably isn't the case. The OP has stated that Amazon has only provided the last 4 digits, and I've just checked on my own Amazon account and the full card number is not displayed. Of course, Amazon will know the full number but it's probably reasonable that they wouldn't disclose it.

Yes but apparently the OP is claiming that he has had so many credit cards that it is impossible for him to identify what type of card it is nor who issued it.

    Ah yes. Good point, thanks.

How about signing up for your free credit reports Noddle, Clearscore & MSE Credit Club. If you haven't already

You should be able to find the credit card listed on one of those, as presumably the account is less than 6 years old even if now closed.
The report would show the last 4 digits of card number which you have from Amazon & would also show the card issuer.
Who you can then call to get the positive balance credited back to your current account
