Bank Charges

Hi There,
I wondered if anyone could let me know if there is anything I can do about a ridiculous bank charge I have received. I bank with Natwest and have made a payment to a supplier in America for quite a large amount, $10,430 and have been hit with £220.00 charge for the pleasure. This seems so unfair that I've been charged so much when it's not even the bank's money, it feels like I've been mugged 😡 Please can you let me know if there is anything that can done? If not I'll probably end up leaving my bank cause it leaves a bitter taste in the mouth 🙁
Thanks guys

Who made the charge? (receiving banks or sending banks)This seems so unfair that I've been charged so much when it's not even the bank's money,
It is the bank's facilities you are using and you need to pay for services. If not I'll probably end up leaving my bank cause it leaves a bitter taste in the mouth
If it was charges from the receiving banks or routing banks then changing your retail bank in the UK is not the answer.
Also, you had a choice to pay just your charges or all the charges. It sounds like you picked all chargesI am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). Receiving bank cause it's Natwest making these charges.. I Never had a choice, that's the whole point. I rang the bank the day before to discuss this payment and at no point was I told there would be any charges. No doubt it's in the small print of the account t&c's so why would they offer that information if they are making money.0

Sending money abroad

That's for personal banking mind you. But it does suggest the maximum fee would be £40 plus a £10 agent fee.
How did you get to £220?
P.S. Edit - Oh I see you said "supplier". It's a business. Then it will cost you a bit more.:)0 -

Natwest are the sending bank. But I suspect you have inadvertantly got it right that it's a charge levied by the receiving bank that they have passed to Natwest who have correctly passed it on to you. They may not have been aware what the charge would be before making the payment but would rely on you having checked that yourself before issuing the payment instruction.0
