Asda petrol station - receipts

Our local Asda store opened a new petrol filling station a number of months ago, it is unmanned so all transactions are carried out by credit card inserted in the pump.

It is the nearest filling station to home and also the cheapest locally so me and my family have all been using it regularly since it opened - no problems, except :-

I need a vat receipt for my fuel purchases and the automated pump asks at the end of the transaction if you require a receipt to be dispensed which of course I always do but on a number of occasions the receipt is not forthcoming for whatever reason and I then have to drive into the main store car park, park and queue at the customer service desk. The Customer service staff then have to request someone to walk back over to the filling station, somehow retrieve a copy of the receipt and walk back to the store to pass it on to me.

After this happened a few times I emailed ASDA Customer services department to ask if there was any solution to the problem, they got back to me and said essentially it was the fault of previous customers who ripped the receipt out of the machine incorrectly and therefore caused a subsequent paper jam, they said that they would pass the complaint on to the 'Retail Team' for action.

Anyway, been back a couple of times since with no problem until today when again no receipt. Went through the usual palaver with customer services and asked if there was a means of complaining to the store manager -apparently not , must be done through head office.

She did say however that the filling station had an attendant from opening until 12.00 mid day , and after that it is left unattended - where is the logic in that?

P.S. when the guy came over with my copy receipt this afternoon he had three or others as well - said to the lady at Customer Service desk 'this will save me going back again to get these as well'.

Any body else had similar experiences who can offer a solution(apart from the obvious one of not buying fuel there anymore')

Our Asda is exactly the same. If the system said there were no receipts it would at least give an opportunity to go elsewhere.

My solution is I don't use them anymore.

At our local Asda, if you put your card into a different pump it will print out a receipt from the previous transaction.

This is the case at all Asda petrol stations. And Tesco too.

our ASDAhas a customer service telephone at the pumps. You call on that and someone comes across to deal with your problem. Doesn't solve the problem of no receipt but you don't need to go anywhere.

It has only happened to us once but , Sod's Law it was the one time we dod need a receipt.

How does that work? If I put in my card at any random pump and (presumably) enter my PIN I can get a copy of the last receipt without dispensing any fuel?

If you put in your card that you have recently purchased fuel with in any machine you can re-print your reciept. It tells you this if you use a terminal that has run out of paper.

No PIN required either (so no possibility of being charged twice)

Thanks for the info, will try that next time if needed. Why in the name of all that is holy didn't the people in-store tell about this remedy on the numerous occasions when I have been hanging around the customer service desk waiting for someone to go and fetch me a copy receipt?

    Maybe they:
    • Didn't know that was possible?
    • Haven't been told about it?
    • Have been instructed by management not to reveal it?
ASDA have changed since they joined up with WalMart (they didn't do "Roll Backs" before then, that's a WalMart thing).

They probably assumed you had already availed yourself of the other pumps, but they were empty too?
