I recently put 9461 MR points towards statement credit. After using the points I found out I needed to go to London next month so I called Amex to see if I could get the points refunded back into my account. The customer service agent said the points were non refundable and asked did I need the points for anything in particular. I proceeded to explain as above.
He credited my account 10000 MR as he explained I would have difficulty converting the points to avios as this is only possible in lots of 500 MR points. He then went on to say he will debit my account to compensate for the statement credit at the end of the week 'if he remembers...' ;-)

Was trying to get a booking in a restaurant, restaurant says full called up amex and suddenly a seat!0
