Card fraud - Parcel2go - Caveat emptor!

I use a TSB debit card purely for my hobby expenses and for the odd few pounds I receive from it. In nearly five years there have been no problems, possibly because the number of people with whom I deal regularly is pretty small (e.g. Royal Mail, PayPal, known national suppliers of electronic components). I made a first-time booking with TNT Express on Tuesday to collect a parcel. This was subsequently done and delivered on time, so no problem there. Then I had a call from TSB...
It may of course be a huge coincidence but in the twelve hours after I'd used the card to pay who I believed was TNT, my card details had been used over a dozen times for purchases from Tesco Direct, Starbucks, Deliveroo, Pizza Express and Nandos - none of these being businesses I use. It turned out that on-line payments to TNT Express are "processed by" Parcel2Go. My computer is well armed with anti malware and virus software and a scan showed nothing untoward. The booking was made over this PC, which is hard-wired to the router (not WiFi), so I'm happy with the security at this end. It doesn't look as good elsewhere, though.
I did try to contact TNT to tell them about this but ended up with an on-line chat operator who I'm sure didn't understand what I was trying to tell her. I have since found that Parcel2Go aren't exactly the Internet's most lauded supplier of courier services either, so all in all I'd say that if you're thinking of using any on-line parcel booking company then make sure you know who is handling the payment and bear in mind my experience with this bunch. I have, of course, cancelled the account which I had to set up!

I've used Parcel2Go countless times with no problems. Your problem may be related but you've no proof, just coincidence.

I've used Parcel2Go for years, and while I've had the odd tussle with them they're not fraudsters.

I'm willing to put money on your details being taken elsewhere - I have my card details for 3 different cards stored with them, and nothing has ever been taken fraudulently.
  • My point was not that P2G are incompetent or suspect, but that my card details were stolen and misused immediately after the very first time I conducted a transaction via their system. I'm no "money saving expert" but I don't believe in coincidences like that. I once had over £1200 stolen from my account after using a brand-new card for the first time at a local filling station. I mentioned it a few weeks later to a colleague and (coincidentally?) he had also had money stolen in the same way after visiting the same place. Where a company's computer security is questionable and my money is involved I don't believe there's room for complacency, but others may feel differently. Suit yourselves.

In your other example, two people using the same filling station suffering the same fate, that may be more than a coincidence.

You P2G experience appears to be an isolated incident, doesn't it?

In so far as it's the only time it happened to me this week then you are correct. As regards it happening to anyone else at any other time, well - neither of us knows, do we? I'm told that once these low-life find a ready source of usable data they will continue to take advantage of it until the system flaw is resolved, then they move on elsewhere. As such I thought that my posting might help prevent someone else from having their card hijacked by the scum who did it to me. Feel free to ignore it if you wish.

    That's quite some accusation!

Has it not occurred to you that in fact you card details may have been stolen way before but just haven't been used yet?

    Where is the accusation?
The OP stated that their card details had been used fraudulently shortly after using that card to pay for a TNT service.
If this is what happened then it's not an accusation, simply a statement of fact.

The accusation was implied because OP is focusing solely on the P2G transaction instead of the other ones too "e.g. Royal Mail, PayPal, known national suppliers of electronic components"

Much more likely that the data was stolen weeks/months ago in some way/not due to P2G transaction. IF the fraudsters have access to encrypted customer data on P2G website then it stands to reason that they have access to LOTS of customer information; I doubt that they'd get round to OP's card within a day or so.... If, however, OP has fallen prey to phising or a keylogger etc then that may explain why the data was used quicker (fraudsters would have much less data to work with), and would rule out any fault on P2G's end.

Who knows though.... Could also be a breach on the bank's side, though the last one appears to have been a few years ago for OP's bank (though you cannot rule that out!)

I was talking about an accusation.

Now bizarrely you have responded with an assumption! (or do you have the ip address's of everything clicked, have bared in mind that almost any fraudster will be using VPN's and still you think your're right! Then OMG you're a joke!)

As the previous poster said the details could have been stolen ages ago. Who knows but for to op to start pointing fingers without any proof is quite an accusation!.
