When you examine the details of a fund or share there are an awful lot of big words and fancy numbers
Is there a site which explains these words and what these figures actually mean (in layman's terms)
Thanks

First up, this site has a very comprehensive set of in depth guides:
http://www.incademy.com/pages/home.htm
to quote:About us
Incademy's aim is simple: to make you a better investor. Our courses are written by top financial journalists. They provide you with the facts, techniques and strategies that make the difference between ordinary and extraordinary performance.
Also have a look at this fund on trustnet. Check the links: volatility, alpha, beta, sharpe, etc over on the right of the page for the fund. Those links give you a good intro to the various ratios used to describe a fund's performance. It's pretty decent info because it gives examples not just a description so it helps you understand (well it did for me anyway
).
Final nugget - on the Bestinvest site, check out the 'Classroom' links on the navigation menu at the top of the page. They have guides on picking funds, how manager performance can be assessed, info on risk and risk modelling, etc etc. Very useful.0
