Liquids on flights

Have the rules changed on this. Traveled from Hong Kong to Sydney yesterday and had water taken off us that we bought after security. No explanation given. My daughter is flying from Edinburgh to Alicante with Ryanairand has had an email saying no duty free allowed on flight . She did not say if it mentioned all liquids. I do realise it could be because her flight could be full of Stags and Hens. Is it a coincidence. We travelled with Cathay Pacific if that makes a difference.

I've no idea why your water was taken from you. Did this happen at the gate, and how big was the bottle?
As for your daughter, the rules are changing in July, and you can read more here...

I would provide a link to the news section of Ryanair's site, but it's currently down for maintenance.0 -
It was a 500ml bottle of water and everyone had their hand luggage checked at the gate and liquids were removed.
It would appear that no duty free alcohol is allowed in hand luggage on Ryanair flights from Edinburgh to Alicante . This ban was already in place for flights to Ibiza.0 -

Some airlines do this, it's not that uncommon in some parts of the world, flying from South America to the US on a USA based airline it's often done.
Was there a note about this in your Cathay Pacific booking confirmation e mail?Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0 -
FWIW service on Cathay Pacific flights is pretty good, and I cannot imagine any reason for bringing your own water on board. I wish I could say the same about Ryanair!0

When we went to Melbourne in 2015, water was taken off us going through customs at the stopover in Singapore, they would not allow it from Dubai either.0

You can still buy alcohol etc. from the duty free shop, it just isn't as cheap as if you were flying outside the EU.0 -
No the rules haven't changed, if you're boarding a flight for the US or Australia you can't take on board liquids in excess of the usual requirements, bottles must be smaller than 100ml & stored in a plastic bag etc0

But water bought after security has always been fine (at least on every flight to the US I've ever taken...)Falkirkgal wrote: »had water taken off us that we bought after security. It depends on which airport you are departing from, at airports with mixed arrival and departures, Changi etc, there will always be secondary screening at the gate for flights to the USA or OZ0
