A new exhibition, launched to mark the 125th anniversary of The Bowes Museum, aims to shed more light on the most mysterious Josephine Bowes. Delving into the archives the museum holds, the exhibition tells the story of Josephine’s life, from her early life as the daughter of a Paris clockmaker, to her time in the theatre and her life after marrying John Bowes.

As well as perusing the exhibition on its first weekend on 20–21 May, you can enjoy afternoon tea for two at Cafe Bowes, including a selection of sandwiches, dainty desserts, fruit scone with preserves and thick cream, served with your choice of tea or coffee.

The Bowes Museum, Newgate, Barnard Castle, DL12 8NP
