PPI beginner

Greetings!
I'm a complete newbie
In 2003 when I was a student I signed up for an Egg credit card. I then joined the Egg card after I graduated with a MInt one (which I still have).
Given these were a long time ago, I don't have any idea if I was paying PPI. My egg card was closed some time ago (I transferred the balance to a Virgin money card to pay off the balance at 0% and once I did that, I never used it and Virgin closed that card for me).
Now the Mint card currently isn't charging me PPI but I don't have the older statements and honestly can't remember if I had it. Same with the Egg and virgin cards - which unlike the Mint are now closed.
So, as I stand, the only paperwork I have (account numbers etc) for these cards are for my existing Mint one.
Am I right in thinking without the account numbers I have no hope of finding out if I was paying PPI on the closed accounts? I guess with Mint I can just give them a call and ask them to check the first few years of my agreement.
I know there is a secondary argument of mis-selling but I'll cross that bridge when I find out if I even had PPI in the first place!
Sorry if I am asking the wrong question, not really sure where to begin, but the temptation of cash sat around with my name on it is too tantalising not to explore!
Thanks!!
James

Thanks, I actually saw that as a regular reply to these newbie questions. My issue is with Egg, who are no longer around. A quick google takes me to a citibank page which advises I send a filled out questionnaire to a postal address. Would Citibank even speak to me?0

If the account were transferred to them, then yes.
Maybe they'll have details of your accounts, maybe they won't. But asking them is the only way you're going to find out.0 -
Do remember that any ppi charged on a credit card would have been itemised separately on the monthly statement, it would have been difficult to miss.
lolcash sat around with my name on it0 -
Thanks for the help!
To be fair back then I wasn't the best at managing my money - I tended to leave my statements unopened and just pay off the minimum each month!
Oh the stupidity of youth!
I'll get in touch with Citi on monday, see if they have any record.0 -
I had an egg card and egg loan, but didn't know anything else. They were bought by Barclays, so I filled in their online ppi form and got a refund.
Hope this helps0
