    Paid £850 last year, renewal quote came in at £950, last nights investigation into comparison sites let me find a quote at £900...
    Nothing has changed, except for gaining an additional year's no claims...

    Mine came in at near half the price of last year. It was a Sunday at 5am online. I keep thinking it was a software error, so I quickly paid and the certificate came through the post.

    How close were you to your renewal date? I have found that I got higher quotes on comparison sites if I checked close to the date and lower if I did it early.

    I assume this is to exploit the fact if you left it late you are getting a bit desperate.

    for the past 4 years i have been paying under £500 for my car insurance.
    I got a renew quote for around £400.

    i always go on-line to see if i get a better deal and usually do - HOWEVER this time around - the cheapest quote i got on the comparison web sites was £1000..!!!!!!!! even what i went on the main providers web site it coming up to over £1500...!!!!!

    is there something going on the insurance world that i do not know...? why are prices so high..? is it certain times of the year its higher.

    i was looking at getting another car and back in January started looking at what it would cost me - and was getting quotes of £500, now for the same type of car its £800-£900...

    Yes, the comparison sites are owned by insurance companies.

    Example........
    Confused.com = EUI group = https://admiralgroup.co.uk/subsidiary-companies

    I strongly suspect they send out inflated renewals and then fix the comparison sites to make the renewal look like a bargain.

    I told them to go screw themselves, for years I got hundreds off my renewals by setting them off against their sister companies, then suddenly Confused.com stopped showing me those cheaper quotes and my renewal was nearly £700, I went to individual insurance companies and got my insurance down to half that.

    Probably, although it's not a secret, it's been news for several months. For example:
