Business registered on house I am buying

Hello members

I am in a process of buying a house and just did a google search with the address and discovered that there are two businesses registered on the address. The names do match the vendor's names. One business has the owners name prior to her marriage and the other business has both husband and wife's name

Should this cause me any concern? I am first time buyer so have no clue if this is something I should worry about.

Thank you for your help

No, there are many other things you might want to worry about but this isn't one of them.

    Thank you for your reply.

I have not checked the covenants yet but sometimes they specify that you can not run the business from the house. My solicitors asked the vendors if they are aware of any breach to covenants and they responded by saying that they are not aware of any.

Well, the sellers won't be running any business from the premises after you move in, so nothing to worry about on that front.

    Why don't you check, then?

I think normally they insist on certain trades or professionsthat cannot be run from the house, usually ones with repercussions for neighbours with smell or similar, not business in general.

Anyway as said its irrelevant, as you wont be (I presume?) and any they might have broken by running a busienss wont be breaking convenants ongoing, unlike, say if there was a covenant against mining and they had broken that by mining and left a mine shaft in the garden.

Thank you for your responses. Should I mention this to my solicitor just to take their opinion? Or there is a chance they might open another can of worms.

    I am confused.

If you own/run a business of any sort you need to be registered somewhere.... many use their accountant's address, others use their own. I'd bet the minute they sell the house they'll update their business address to be their new address.

    All perfectly normal I'd expect.

Whether they run/not a business FROM that address isn't really a worry for you ... they probably don't, but just "had to put down an address" so used their home address.

Ask them to confirm they will change the registered office addresses when they move if you have any concerns.

Once you move in, why not change the locks?

That should stop them conducting their business from your home.

You are confused by the so far unanimous opinion that you shouldn't worry about this? Well...by all means ask your solicitor for their advice, it's what you're paying them for.
