Aghghgh Does This Type of Insurance Exist out there?!!

Hi there,

I'm hoping someone can help.

I'm a tradesman and need tool cover. Im not self-employed I am employed so as soon as I call insurers they won't help? I am employed by a one man person and the tools are mine not theirs so I take them home each night and they are either in a locked outbuilding or in our house. Again I can be flexible with this as just want the damn things covered!

I've spoken to a few brokers and insurers who say my house insurance should cover..well they wont as it's used for work and we are talking maybe £1000+ cover, well some are old so a guess.

I don't want this van cover as that's only in the day so it's like they don't listen?! And the van's not mine either.

Can anyone tell me what I need other than a cold pint as i'm bamboozled!!

The person you work for, their tool cover may extend to cover employees tools.

If not, Zurich offer this cover under their Contract Works policy. Not sure if you need that via a Broker or if you can go Direct

How about a business extension to your home policy?

Call an insurance broker, I used to do a lot of insurance for a broker i worked for and there was a company we dealt with who could speak to the actual underwriters for the main insurers and customise a policy - it was not particularly expensive in the main. Infact I remember us doing a home insurance policy for a lady who made cakes at home as a business. We did everything for about 50p a month more than a normal home insurance policy.
