Current State of Smart Meters?

Hi everyone,

Smart Meters have been around for a while now, and when I last got any reliable information about the state of the rollout, it was a complete mess - meters not working when you switch, very patchy availability, and lots of reports of unreliable meters.

I`m interested in hearing from consumers who have had a smart meter installed and subsequently switched suppliers - did it still work, or did it turn into a dumb meter? Did the wireless smart energy display in your kitchen stop working?

Thanks!

Apologies, plenty of info already on the forums if i had actually be bothered to look.

SMETS2 meters will keep working and SMETS1 meters will not. I guess the tarrif info will be wrong on the display when you switch. SMETS2 roll out unclear at this stage, I understand.

I have gone and made the 1 st option at 100% because my smart meter did stay smart after switching from British Gas to Sainsburys Energy. In fact its switched again now and still smart..back to British Gas, so two switches and counting and still remote readings working.I ve binned the silly freebie monitor thingy.I don t want another gadget taking up plug space .

Moving from BG to BG White Label and back to BG is not really "switching" though is it :o

No..lol ..but I ve collected £60 switching fees..that was nearly my gas bill for a year.BG are daft enough to pay me to switch from within the same supplier so I will take advantage of their stupidity..and also got slightly cheaper tariffs..That was last year. BG are now out of the game for any cheap tariffs and OFGEM have stopped them using white label suppliers to offer cheaper deals, so Sainsburys may as well pack in
