how much cash can you pay into your bank account ?

My sister recently sold some jewellery which belonged to our mother, for cash, and gave me half the proceeds, just over £1500 in cash. Will it cause problems if i try to pay this into my bank account? is there a limit which sets banks' alarm bell ringing?

You do ask some odd questions, don't you? If you need to ask a question on MSE before you do everything in your life you'll never get anything done!

To be fair, if the OP had asked about paying that much cash into a certain high street bank I might have suggested trying a different one if possible. :lipsrseal Or at least taking the receipts with me ;)

Banks rarely question such nominal amounts going however drawing it out is a different story.

Bank teller :- Mr Palimo are you taking this money out for a holiday.
Me :- Nope I am going to spend it on hookers, beer and cocaine.
