You seem scarily industrious, and possibly worn out after that 20 hour day! Hope you can get some rest as well as a run.
No I didn't Cherryfudge. I had a last minute piece of work to complete and ended up ferrying my DFIL back and forward. I will put the gear on again in the morning and try againSave £10,500 - £2673.77 - 25.5%

Never mind - here's to good running conditions tomorrow (I'm hoping to go for a run myself but it will depend on my getting up in good time).I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

DH is on a mission to paint all the landing, stairs and hall by the end of the week (except the gloss) so the cost will have to come out of the buffer amount in the account and the £70 swimming money. My budget for October is now £1080.Save £10,500 - £2673.77 - 25.5%
Pay off £7000 - £1743 - 19.4%

It appears that when they asked my DH if he wanted to leave on Monday they didn't intend on paying him the rest of his notice period and his wage today was £400 short :mad::mad: The buffer I had for the work in the hall and to see us over until his new wage arrives at the end of October has now been gobbled up. We should be OK if we watch what we are spending but DH new work shirts will have to go on the CC.
DH is so relieved to be out of the place he does not want to challenge the short payment. The accountant was so jealous and bitter and down right nasty when DH got his new job, it is within the same industry so they know what salary he will be on and that he is moving to a very prestigious firm, it would be very difficult to get the money back.
DS has gone for his trial day at his new school today and was really nervous but so brave DH and I are very, very proud of himHe had told his old class he wasn't going back so they had all said their farewells but he has another week to go. The new headmaster says he can start on Monday if he wants and we are very tempted to do so but will have to make a decision by early afternoon. His uniform will be ready early next week.
I got some good feedback yesterday on a piece of work from someone who has the people skills of a rock so that was good
Wont manage a run after all to day as got dressed properly and did my hair to take DS into school and we are out for tea later. Plus it is chucking it down here.Save £10,500 - £2673.77 - 25.5%

Oh no! to the money being short. I know you have managed well so there is a buffer even though it means using the hall fund and putting shirts on the CC, which means it's just a delay in sorting those things, not a real problem, but it's hard on you all. Perhaps you will recoup some of that money in a way because of the work he'll be able to do at home?
Lots of good wishes to DS for his new school, and well done to you for the positive feedback! I'm not running today either due to waking up very late and (you've guessed it) the rain.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

That is a very good way of looking at it Cherryfudge. It would have cost me a lot more than £400 to pay someone else to paint the hall, landing and stairs.
We are going to paint the White panel doors and replace the brass door furniture with chrome until we can afford new oak doors. Our cupboard under the stairs has no door on it as it fell apart when we moved in but is an odd size so not sure what to do about that.Save £10,500 - £2673.77 - 25.5%

The only thing that comes to mind is a bead curtain, but I'm sure Pinterest has a few ideas (if you have a few hours to spare).I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

It does sound like Mr X's relief at not having to stay for that final week might be worth 'losing' the money. Can't put a price on peace of mind. (And get him doing the painting!!)NST March lion #8; NSD ; MFW9/3/23 Whoop Whoop!!!0

Our local B&Q will cut the doors to size, and sympathy on the 1000 doors on the hall/landing mine is the same. 17 doors  I will have to paint them soon too.
Congratulations on DH new job must be a huge relief knowing things will be okay.
Hope you've had a lovely weekend x0 -
Goodness me HI, that is a lot of doors! I will have a look at what B&Q can do or will go for a curtain as a temporary measure. DH thinks a curtain is a very clever idea
DH has put on a thin coat of paint for the plaster all over the walls and ceiling, 2 coats of paint on the ceilings and 1 coat of undercoat on the walls this week and we have both applied one coat of colour to the walls this afternoon. It needs another 2 coats at least .
Very spendy week what with the paint and materials, DH shirts, ties and a new suit, 2 pairs of school trousers for DS as his new school only allow grey and he had a mix of grey and black, Halloween costumes, face paint, spider web tights and a fake blood covered chopper  I wasn't planning to buy the costumes so soon but DS wanted to go as Dracula last year but we couldn't find one left anywhere in his size so when he saw this one today we bought it. All from Wilkos for £30. I have seen a ladies witch costume at Aldi for £7.99 (go into store Thursday) which will be perfect for me with my snazzy tights and a pair of black boots.
I did save over £70 on the shirts and ties thanks to a 3 for 2 and a Sparks offer. Oh and got DH a lunch bag as he cant go into his new place of work with his lunch in a scruffy carrier bag like he normally does
Food shop at Aldi came to £31 for the week which is low for us but did include 5 bottles of beer for DH and shake n vac, crisps and tube yogurt things which weren't on the list. I also bought 1 of the copy slimming world ready meals for DH to try If he likes them that will be a good saving for us and save a trip to icy land.
We have had a bit of a financial disaster this afternoon though. DH agreed to have some work done this afternoon by a chap who called on spec. He negotiated a good price for cash and it was something that we needed doing before winter sets in but hadn't got time to do ourselves. It was only when I was stood in front of the cash point did I realise that I had already withdrawn almost all my cash limit that morning to pay DMIL and had to use a CC, the only one I had on me was the most expensive one I have! I feel terrible having to do it but they were in the middle of the work and I had no other optionGood job they made such a good job of the work.
DH said this evening that he doesn't want anything for Christmas as he has had so much this year. He is a real kid when it comes to Christmas and presents so this is a big thing for him. I couldn't tell you anything I want so I am more than happy to agree to this and as we have already knocked catering for others off our list this year due to the cost (and some repeated lack of appreciation) our Christmas budget is plummeting.
We have seen some lights we like for the hall and landing but have agreed to put all further spends on hold and are going to be very careful over the next 3 months to clear some of the debt we have added to the debt mountain over the last couple of months and to rebuild our small cushion.
I am going to set some goals for October and the rest of the year and report back tomorrow.
