Maybe not the right board but there's so many...
I only found out on breakfast news the old fiver spending power ends at midnight tomorrow. The banks will still take them indefinately though.
Did anyone else know as the Bank of England didn't appear to shout about it?

You know what uranium is, right? It's this thing called nuclear weapons. And other things. Like lots of things are done with uranium. Including some bad things.

Yes, there was an item in the paper last week, same day as they found the first "uncounterfeitable" counterfeit £1 coins!!0

I heard in on the news month back {I think around the end of October/November last year}. All of my old ones are gone but just to add the old style £1 coins also end this year, the final day for them {other than the banks is 16th October so I would advise people to make a note of that date somewhere handy as the same situation will happen again and with it being on the Christmas run up people may let it slip their minds.
As a footnote it seems there are {if news is to be believe} 150 million of the old £5 note still out there so a lot of people could be caught out.0 -
Yes I knew. In fact all this week nothing but plastic £5 been given to me.0

Yes, it was announced at the time the new fivers were introduced! Al my local shops have signs up, even my teller has told me last week and it's been all over the national press for about a week now. Certainly wasn't a state secret!0 -
The date doesn't mean shops MUST refuse to accept them, only that they can use that as a reason to not serve you ; and if you are trying to pay for a haircut you've had, or a meal you've eaten, that could be very bad.
It also means customers can refuse to accept them as change, so we shouldn't be getting any more.0
