Lost engagement ring - claiming on insurance

  • Reading the policy it seems that there are lots of exclusions if they think you were negligent. Surely though it could be argued that if you lose something its your fault?

Also, I've heard if you're in a pub they automatically deny a claim. Seems a bit harsh (she wasnt though in this case).

What have they said when you called them? Are they accusing you of negligence?

And they automatic exclusion if you're in a pub, is that documented in the policy book?

Not yet. Still hoping it shows up/gets handed in.

No - nothing in policy book.

They will only deny a claim if the circumstances surrounding the claim are noted in the policy booklet as being excluded, or not noted as being covered.

I've never heard of a "in a pub" type exclusion in a policy ... seems a bit too specific ...

Unless it's written in black and white and you had reasonable chance to read it written in black and white before making an informed decision whether you wished to be bound by the contract (policy), you are covered.

As long as you weren't negligent, e.g., playing beer pong with her engagement ring, I imagine you'd be fine as long as you can provide suitable substantiation for the item.
