GB energy questions

Ainsley1 - Have just spoken to GB Energy about the increase (although my year with them is coming to an end) and they told me that the projected figures they give are for the variable rate, which they have to do so that people can leave whenever they want. Got a quote for a new fixed rate which is £9 per month less than the quoted rate in the email, although still a lot more than compared to last years brilliant deal.
If you are on a no exit fee deal and want to stay, you could shop around now before the increases on 1st June or ask them about a new fixed deal.0 -
Hello again Majestic1919
My switch to GNE has been going smoothly and as planned as far as I can tell.
I got an email from them in the early hours this morning telling me that they are now my new supplier. It's my switch date today.
I submitted my readings to GBES on the 10th as I normally do and to GNE the same day as they had requested also.
They've been showing as my opening readings with them in advance with today's switch date. And on the 10th with GBES I could only submit my gas one as my electric had already been disconnected from them. I submitted it by phone instead and they entered a randomly uneven/decimalised slightly lower reading on the electric than I had given them.
Anyway my 10th May bill with GBES is 19p in credit as a result. (I'd already requested and got a refund back to my account of the credit I had built up a few weeks back after last month's bill. £79 I think it was).
I'm still waiting for my final bill though as my gas switch has not finalised due to me being an IGT customer. So i'm still in the limbo situation I always am on switching whereby my gas reading of the 10th with GBES is showing as the 15th on GNE and I'm holding my breath for a notification to submit another reading as the dates clash and it prolongs the completion. This has happened to me a few times before.
I may be pleasantly surprised however this time round. (SSE on behalf of Ebico were the most efficient at dealing with that when I switched to them in the past).
As for dealing with GNE by phone, they have a bi-lingual service. Italian or English. You easily select English. I got through to an asian guy who spoke poor English and didn't understand what I was asking. I was querying why the second line of my address was wrong. It's still showing as the temporary address as a new build before the proper address was assigned by the Royal Mail five and half years ago. He thought I was asking to change the property number. I was also asking if I could change the switch date and direct debit date to something more suitable. No such luck. I got the impression they couldn't due to switching rules. No offer to do so after the switch either.
So there you go, my first impressions. Setting up and managing your account online with GNE has been a breeze though. My only phone contact so far was a bit alarming and a waste of time and energy.
Did I mention they've got good phone and tablet apps too? They've even got finger print recognition if your devices have it too as well as the usual log-in method. Eat your heart out GBES. So I think it'll be easier to deal with GNE online than by phone. You can email them instead too. Also I'm looking forward to a set direct debit amount throughout the fixed term as opposed to the fluctuating one I've had with GBES.
Best of luck with your switch. Incidentally, Solarplicity (ex LoCo2) are the cheapest for me now if I were to switch today. But being an IGT gas customer I couldn't as they don't accept us. Something to bear in mind for those affected.0
