NCB Car Insurance Query

Hi all
It's car insurance renewal time! I passed, got my car and insured it April 2012 so in my mind, having never made a claim, I should have 5 years NCB.
I've checked with my current insurer and the document says 3 years, going into 4.
Is there anything I'm missing here? If not, how can I prove it should be 5 years? I've not had any break in owning and insuring my car.
Thanks for any help and insight!

Did you have your own policy from the start, or were you a named driver on someones policy at first?
You need to check your past renewal notices / policies to see where it went wrong, as it seems at one point you've either told them the incorrect NCD, or not sent them the proof previously, so they've re-set it to 0.0 -
I'm in a similar situation. Have noticed that current renewal has me down as 7 years NCB, whereas in fact I have had my own car insurance since May 2005, and when I did that first policy the brokers got me a year NCB because I'd been driving husband's car for 20+ years without a claim.
When looking online for alternative quotes I've noticed that the max NCB years you can enter on sites varies. I'm thinking that maybe in the past being a tart as advised by Martin, I have chosen a firm that only lets you have, say 6 years, and I've now got this mythical 7 years NCB. Does anyone know if it is possible for insurers to check a mega database somewhere that would show if/when you have claimed?
Insurers are always saying tell the truth because we do share info - I can't believe that this isn't the sort of info they can't check. I'd be happy to offer to pay for them to do a check if that is possible.
Any suggestions welcome. I don't have previous years paperwork to check myself.0
