Where is the cheapest place I can purchase Fire Doors?

Hi there,
I'm having work done on my house and the building inspector said that I need to upgrade the doors to Fire Doors (FD30s.) Turns out these aren't so cheap.
I'm looking for something that looks decent, so regular, white, 4 panel fire doors would be fine. Cheapest Ive seen these is £72 each. Can anyone improve on that?
Thanks in advance.

Be careful here. Being driven by price means you could end up with counterfeit/dubious doors. You should be specifying exactly. A reputable brand like Premdor, or Jeldwen should be fine, but the cheaper doors are all, probably, coming out of the same factory. Masonite at Warrington(?) is at the back of my mind.
£72 is a good price for a door - what do you expect to pay? Price up a sheet of decent 18mm WBP Plywood and you will see good timber products do not cost peanuts.0 -
They make counterfeit fire doors? What's the world coming to?!?
I just came across these on eBay:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/6-x-BRAND-NEW-White-4-panel-fire-door-90-mins-fire-rated-/152527311905?hash=item2383561421:g:Q3YAAOSw7GRZAkG0
They're a bit bigger that my desired size. Can they be cut down easily or is that not recommended?
Thanks again0 -
Sometimes I think why do I bother? These doors are 457mm which is no good to man nor beast. They also do not have hinges - so what does one do about the missing pieces? The drilled holes may not match those elsewhere in the house, but perhaps nobody cares about this. Then one has no idea who made them, nor whether they are really accredited, tested fire doors. I have alluded to this with my post and I might as well whistle into the wind.
Get real here. You have budgeted for proper doors on your building works. In addition fire doors are an essential item designed to save lives. Your obsession with penny pinching leaves me saying purchase the ebay ones and carve them up to further ruin their dubious characteristics.
Then go back on ebay and see if there are second hand brake linings you can purchase for your car. Who cares about provenance, or technicalities, provided they are cheap.0 -
I'm asking a question about an area I have no knowledge about. You offered some useful advice initially but now you seem to be hell-bent on being a condescending d*ck.
A simple " these won't be suitable" would have sufficed, but instead you rush into a tirade which was twice as long as your original helpful post.
People who don't know about a subject tend to ask stupid suggestions, and obviously my proposal was ill-advised, but you could have dealt without flying off the handle.
I want a safe solution, which is as cost effective as possible.
Thanks for your initial advice.0 -

Hmm, I thought the same as you too .....0 -

The ebay site clearly states the size of the doors. Hence my response. It is blindingly obvious these doors are good for nothing. It is a fundamental of life that a door has to be wide enough for a person to pass through that doorway. The door also has to fit in the frame.
Standard doors evolved over generations at 2feet 6inches. This could reduce to 2'3 on a toilet, and 2' on a cupboard door. Nobody expects you to know this because it is building talk. However your ebay doors are so narrow at 1'6 so they will not fit any normal openings - not even a cupboard.
I gave you sound advice in my #2 but you came back with your ebay doors. Did you seriously expect these to pass inspection by the Building Inspector?0
