Protecting fuchsias in winter
I bought some of the giant fuchsias in the summer and I am very fond of one which is called "black prince". I would like to protect them from winter and would like some tips from fellow members, they are in the flower bed now, I wonder whether I should dig them up and pot individually and store in shed or garage as I do not have a green house. What I normally do with my begonias is to put them behind the shed in their pot and they come up with no problems every year. I was also thinking may be I could wrapped the roots with some bubble wrap or use plastic container you get when you buy fruits srom tesco, and then cover with bark. Any advice will be greatly appreciated, I am a fuchsia's lover. They are the only plants that will thrive in my clay garden. Thanks

Go and get yourself some fleece - you can buy it at garden centres and use this to wrap around your plants, you can also use bubble wrap. My mum has a massive garden (she also has a greenhouse) but her hardy fuchsias live in the ground all year round. She wraps them with this fleecy stuff and they seem to survive.
Also take a few cuttings and grow them in the house just to be sure that the plant is not totally killed off (these things happen).0 -
Even hardy Fuschia can be killed off by a cold snap/hard winter. Unless it's a known hardy - very robust plant, several years in ground over winter - (sorry, don't know Black Prince), I'd dig it up and pop it into your garage for next year.I'm mad!!!! :rotfl::jand celebrating everyday every year!!!0

Yes but very very sparingly. Also place it in the lightest part of the garage you can. Next to a window would be good if it has one.0 -
I know someone that stores plants in garage over Winter and as long as they are light and very slightly moist they should be fine. The garage only had a little light from the roof too.
I keep mine outside in a sheltered place. I did loose one or two years back due to a poor spell in Winter.
Could you ask someone you know that maybe has a greenhouse if they can kindly store them0
