I received this link/list from UKmoneysite regarding funds recommended by Best invest, HL & Fidelity. Fidelity came out top. Click the second link below and view the embedded version - no download required.

I'm really not sure about this report although the figures may indeed be factual?

For instance, it says the Lindsell Train UK Equity and also the Lindsell Train Global fund in the HL list are poor funds! This is because they will only consider funds as top or mediocre if they achieve great/good results over all periods in the report ie. 1, 3 and 5 year periods. Therefore, because the Lindsell Train funds have not performed as well in the past year (although very well over 3 and 5 years) they are deemed to be poor funds!

So basically, any fund has to deliver consistently over all periods in the report to merit mediocre or top!

    Isn't that a good thing?

If you read how Trustnet allocate their crown ratings you will see there is a lot more to it than simply looking at % gain or loss over a set period:

Some of the best top rated funds on Trustnet and Morningstar etc can have an off year mainly because of the sector or asset classes they are invested. Therefore, IMHO it is quite ridiculous to say a particular fund is 'poor' because they have not quite performed to their usual standard over the past year.

I would of thought quite the opposite really because you should look at the funds long term achievements ie. over 10 years and if years 2 to 10 are consistently good then are you going to say its a 'poor' fund because of the past year (year 1) as a standalone critique!

I have have used UK Moneysite for quite some time and find their info to be really helpful especially the free portfolio review which was a great exercise. They do have a sister brand called yodelar.com that recently launched which gives even more info and well worth a look.

Oh really? Awfully kind of you to go to the trouble of registering an account to let everyone know how much you like that website.
