Time frame on sale of our house

Hi everyone, this is our first time buying and selling so was hoping someone could give me a rough timeline of events. We accepted an offer on our house a couple of weeks ago to FTB but they changed solicitor so only instructed the new one last week. So far we haven't found anything suitable but are gonna push the sale through and move into a friends house while we search. All of our paperwork with regards to the sale we handed back to our solicitor over a week ago but not heard anything back yet. Is there anything else we will have to do or is it just sit back and wait. How long do you envisage it taking from where we are now to exchange and then completion? Thanks

The sale should be progressed - especially if it's an FTB.
i.e. Somebody should be chasing the buyer to make sure they instruct their solicitor, apply for a mortgage, book a valuation etc, and help them with 'problems' that arise.
If you're selling through an EA that charges a fee on exchange/completion, they will usually do sale progression. If not, maybe you'll have to do it.0 -
Yes we are using an estate agent. I called them today to try and get an update and like I said they told us our buyer had instructed new solicitors last week so hopefully things will start moving. Don't think they've had any issues with the mortgage. Is the mortgage valuation a drive by or do they have to call us to come into the house?0

Base it on the average sale/purchase taking 12 weeks from offer to completion. Some things will be quick, some slow.
Valuations differ. Some/most will come in. Some are drive-bys.
