Don't Sign & Date Your Halifax Purchase Credit Card Today 30/9

If you've got your credit card agreement form for the Halifax Purchase Credit Card (15 months interest free on purchases) DON'T put today's date on it.

I received mine last week, just read agreement and was about to sign when I spotted it was for the Halifax One Mastercard not the Purchases Credit Card. Phoned Halifax and after denying all knowledge of the Purchases Credit Card said this offer starts tomorrow (even though it was on their website last week!). Advised to date my credit card agreement 1/10/07 otherwise I'll get the older offer on the mastercard which is only 12 months 0% on purchases.

If you've already sent your agreement back I'd advise you check with Halifax as to what offer you're actually getting!

  • Thanks, I really want this credit card, it it an easy 1 to get? I have no debts, and have had 1 CC for a year and 1 for 4months, but was late with my last payment (1day!)
Would I have more chance ringing and talking to some1?
If I use the internet I might be able to get cashback!
I'm getting older, and lifes getting harder!
  • Sent of my signed agreement last Thursday. The agreement confirms 6 months promotion on balance transfers, and 15 months on purchases, so all good to go on my first slow stooze.

I agree the letter is for a "Halifax one Mastercard" - as shown on the sample cards on the website - Not sure why the "Purchase card" element is a cause for concern.

One other point the agreement clause 3.1 has a total charge for credit of £116.20 consisting of £116.20 interest.

The agreement does not specify when this charge will be invoked, but as an implied term I assume would be applied if the minimum payment is not made. Is this a standard clause on 0% cards ?

    3.1 says...
3.1 The total charge for credit is £116.20, consisting of £116.20 interest. This is based on credit of £1,500 being borrowed at the start of the agreement over one year at the standard interest rate for purchases set out in condition 3.2 below and repaid in equal monthly instalments beginning one month after the start of the agreement.
Lenders must quote you this figure. It's designed to enable you to compare products on a like-for-like basis.

In your case, if, at the end of your 15 month introductory period, you go out and spend £1,500, then you will repay a total of £1,616.20 (£1,500 + £116.20) if you pay it back at £134.68 per month.
  • This card only starts tomorrow in branches, but was available last week on the internet

if you have existing agreements, not saying so, do not sign them, make sure you get new agreements
  • I tried to search for this card....Haven't been successful. Could someone add a link to this card please...

    Much appreciated.

Because if you've applied for something called a Purchase Credit Card because it has the terms you want you need to make sure that's what you've got and not a different card with different terms which may not be suitable.

In this case, OK the mastercard is good at 12 mths 0% but the Purchase Card better at 15mths. It seems like the staff at Halifax are confused over the dates the offer starts with internet a/cs as opposed to branch a/cs so sorry if I scared anyone but I'm sure we all want our extra 3 mths stoozing!
